Expectations for Art Class and How Grades Will Be Recorded: Each student is to abide by the Art Room Code of Conduct, which I have described below and can also be found on the website by following the link for Art Class.
As was listed on the Art Supply List in the beginning of the year, Grades 4–8 are required to bring a sketchbook every time they attend art. While it may not be used every time, it is important to have for various assignments in class. Sketchbooks with unused pages may always be used again the following year. Grades 5-8 should bring their pencil cases, as well, because there are times when they may need their own set of supplies.
For grades 4-8, participation points are given to the students each time they have art class. The students receive five points for participating in art and following the Code of Conduct. Students that attend art twice a week receive ten points total for the week. Points may be taken away for failure to abide by any one of the items listed in the Code of Conduct. Projects are graded based on either a formal or informal rubric. Students are given the directions and expectations for projects orally before each project. I grade projects on effort and how well the objectives of the assignments are completed, not on talent.
Curriculum:
The students will learn the elements and principles of art and utilize them in their artwork. I will teach many different art techniques and provide opportunities for the students to discover and explore these techniques using a variety of materials. They will explore how art plays a role in history and in today’s world.
