Mrs. Onesti Teacher Policies (continued)
Homework Policies:
-
Homework is given daily and occasionally on the weekend.
-
Homework is to be done on loose-leaf paper only. No spiral paper will be accepted.
-
Students should spend at least twenty to thirty minutes per night for completing homework and reviewing lessons.
-
Students are to keep and maintain their practice workbook. These pages may be ripped out and collected upon the teacher’s discretion.
-
Each student has one day per absence to make up work missed due to sickness.
Evaluation/Grades:
Grades will be based on a percentage accumulated from the outlined combinations for each class:
-
Tests: 40%
-
Writing: 30%
-
Quizzes: 25%
-
Homework: 5%
Effort grades will be based on the number of incomplete or late assignments along with class participation. Three late assignments will result in an effort grade of NI.
Writing Policies:
-
Because writing is a process, rewrites are essential to good writing and are strongly encouraged.
-
Major papers ( 2 pages plus) are only allowed the rewrite policy, unless otherwise noted by teacher.
-
All students are given the opportunity to rewrite each paper as many times within the given time frame (determined by the teacher…usually 1-11/2 weeks).
-
Rewrites will ONLY be accepted with the most recently graded paper.
-
Rewrites will ONLY be accepted with the ORIGINAL rubric…NO EXCEPTIONS.
-
Rewrites will only be accepted after all first drafts have been graded and returned.
-
Rewrites will be graded DAILY so that each student has the maximum number of times to rewrite the paper.
-
Rewrites will only be counted if it HELPS the grade; LOWER GRADES WILL NOT BE TAKEN.
Attendance/Absences:
-
If a student is absent it is his/her responsibility to complete assignments due during his/her absence. Students must read the section (s) missed, get class notes and attempt the work. If the student has any questions, please make an appointment with the teacher either before or after school. It is also the student’s responsibility to show the teacher the completed homework in the required time frame in which it was done.
-
IF A STUDENT IS PRESENT FOR THE TEST REVIEW (EITHER IN CLASS OR BEFORE SCHOOL), THE STUDENT MUST MAKE UP THE TEST ON THE FIRST DAY BACK TO SCHOOL. The test can be taken during class time or after school. Extended absences should see the teacher to set a reasonable deadline for making up missed work.
Teacher Availability:
-
Ms. Onesti is available before school on most days. Please check with the teacher before class if help is required.
-
Test reviews are done for all English groups on the day of the test. These review sessions are from 8:00-8:30. Students will not be permitted to enter the room after 8:15. Test reviews are not always held on the same day. It is up to the student to write the review day in his/ her planner and inform parents.
