During any swim day, a student can earn up to 5 points per class period.  If a student gives 100% effort, is dressed and prepared for class, and engages in the activity with enthusiasm and will to learn, that student will earn 5/5 points for that particular period.  If a student is missing any part of his/her uniform, does not participate in class, does not follow directions, and/or breaks rules, their 5 points will not be earned.   When a student does not bring their uniform to class they receive 0 points, however they have an opportunity every Monday morning at 8:00 am to receive ½ credit and make up their class.  EFFORT MATTERS IN MY CLASS and is a part of their TOTAL GRADE.

Some of the units that we will be partaking in during the 2010-2011 school years include:

First Aid, CPR, and AED- All 8th grade students will be certified from the American Heart Association through out Student Program at St. Petronille School.  Mrs. Giunta-Mayer and the volunteer student nurses provide the 8th graders with hands on training.   This class begins in January and is completed by Early March.

DANCE, DANCE, DANCE!  This year the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will participate in the St. Petronille School Dance Program with instructor Andy Fuczak.  5th and 6th Grade will have four classes of SQUARE DANCING – THE STATE DANCE which meets the state standards for our curriculum.  The 7th and 8th graders will enjoy 12 classes of movement and fun as they learning the mambo, swing, waltz, and freestyle.

INLINE SKATING IS BACK FOR 4th – 8th Grade!  That’s right; Mrs. Giunta-Mayer is putting on her skates, but not in the pool.  Students will enjoy 3 weeks of inline skating in our own gym.  All students will need to sign the wavier before they participate.  Only “Skatetime” skates are allowed to be worn in the gym and wrist guards and helmets (you can bring your own helmet) will be mandatory in class.

BOWLING IN BACK:  We are going again!  Off to Wheaton Bowl for our annual bowling unit.  Do you know how to keep score, this year you will learn in your Math classes!
