Principal at St. Petronille School Achieves Award as Outstanding

Dr. Mary Kelly with Joliet Diocesan School Superintendent
Fr. John Belmonte
The Principal of St. Petronille Catholic School in Glen Ellyn has been chosen as the recipient of the Bishop Kaffer Outstanding Principal of the Year Award. A news release from the Diocese of Joliet recently announced this good news as follows:
"Please join us in congratulating Dr. Mary Kelly, Principal at St. Petronille in Glen Ellyn, who is the recipient of our 2nd Annual Bishop Roger L. Kaffer Outstanding Principal Award sponsored by Lewis University. Selecting a recipient for the award was very difficult for our panel of judges due to the high caliber of administrators that were nominated for the exceptional quantity and quality of work that they do for their school and community. The decision was given much thought and serious deliberation. After several hours of discernment the committee came to a unanimous vote."
Dr. Kelly is in her 16th year as principal at St. Petronille School, which is one of 64 Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Joliet, and one of 7,094 Catholic Schools nation-wide.
Dr. Kelly sees her role of Principal as one of ministry – to students, to families, and to the community. Students regard her as their leader, yet their Princi-pal. Parents as well as students are expressing their joy at the news of the selection of Dr. Kelly as Outstanding Principal of the Year. On Tuesday, March 8, the St. Petronille School community will honor Dr. Kelly at an all-school assembly at 2:40 P.M. in the school gymnasium. The College of Education of Lewis University will officially present Dr. Kelly with her award on Thursday, April 7, in Romeoville. The Outstanding Principal Award is named in memory of the late Bishop Kaffer, an Auxiliary Bishop of Joliet, who was noted for his dedication to Catholic education.
