Academics

Pre-Kindergarten Curriculum

St. Petronille offers full and part day Pre-kindergarten options which allows for enrichment of academic skills. We foster a love for learning, while developing their Catholic faith, confidence, creativity & critical thinking.

Our pre-kindergarten age program equips students with school readiness to ensure a successful transition to kindergarten. We utilize a comprehensive, research-based curriculum that features hands-on, project-based investigations, through exploration and discovery as a pathway to learning.

Faith

Our religion curriculum focuses on the love of Jesus, self and others. Our faith is integrated throughout the daily curriculum. We foster recognition of God’s love in the child’s everyday life using Bible stories, daily prayer, and opportunities to attend school Masses and prayer services.

Literacy

We creatively incorporate best practices to support each child’s language and vocabulary, phonological awareness, knowledge of the alphabet, concepts of print, read- aloud experiences, and writing through an authentically rich literacy-based program.  Learning will be based on our student’s independent and developmentally appropriate ability level, in a comfortable atmosphere that encourages growth as our students are immersed in balanced literacy fundamentals.

Math

The Pre-K children learn about number recognition, one-to-one correspondence counting, quantifying, sorting, sequencing, patterns, spatial awareness, shapes, measurement, time, money, charting, algebraic ideas, & problem solving by participating in a wide variety of mathematical activities that consist of hands on experiences, discussion, and exploration.  We promote mathematical thinking through daily, hands on experiences.

Science

Students will investigate the use of basic tools, physical properties, life cycles, senses, weather, seasons, the earth’s environment & scientific play.  Students will learn to use and engage their creative thinking skills through play and exploration in a sensory rich atmosphere.

Social Studies

Students will learn about American symbols, following rules, homes around the world, neighborhoods and helpers in our community, conflict resolutions, maps, past & present, cultures, celebrating self & people around us.  Students are supported as individuals who will eventually collaborate and work with others to live out God’s love in the world!

Art

Students will use all our senses to explore colors, 3D art, cultural activities, drawing, dimension, dramatic play, inventions and music & movement.  Art projects will be a natural integration into our Pre-K program with varying work related to faith, seasons, and holiday celebrations.

Differentiated Instruction

Our curriculum is designed to meet the needs of all learners while working to provide an atmosphere where each child is celebrated for their unique gifts and talents.

Service

Pre-K is involved in school-wide service projects. These will include St. Pet service programs and other outside projects that will include our Pre-K program as a natural aspect of our entire school community.

Field Trips

Pre-kindergarten participates in outings to enrich our curriculum and to learn more about the world outside of the classroom. These preschool friendly trips will be shared as the school year begins.  Parent participation is always welcome!
