Faith and Service

One of the unique blessings of attending St. Petronille School is experiencing its Christian tradition. We offer:

  • Weekly School Mass each Thursday with student liturgical band
  • Opportunities for Eucharist Adoration and daily gospel reading
  • Regular opportunities for communal prayer through prayer services
  • Sacrament preparation during 2nd and 8th Grade
  • Opportunities to gather with friends who are grounded in faith
  • Numerous service events which serve the school, parish and community
  • Proactive, nurturing conduct policy wherein students learn of God's mercy, grace and healing

Mass and Sacraments

Weekly school Mass is offered each Thursday at 10:10 am. allowing Christ's true presence of His Body and Blood to leads us throughout the each and everyday.  Student participation throughout the Mass make this a highlight of the week! The students are responsible for the readings, petitions, altar servers, and music (Student Liturgical Choir and Band). Through the sacraments our students learn the richness of our Catholic Faith and how a deep faith life brings true peace and eternal JOY!

St. Petronille school's curriculum includes the preparation for and participation in key sacraments:

  • First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion (2nd Grade)
  • Confirmation (8th Grade)

The activities centered on sacrament preparation are coordinated with the Faith Formation Department to ensure a common Parish approach.  Both of these ministries fully support and communicate our vision to bring about missionary disciples!

Retreats

St. Petronille offers retreats for students in 6th and 8th Grades. The retreats are designed as opportunities for faith formation and transformation. Our retreats allow our students to temporarily leave behind their usual hectic schedules, to be refreshed and revitalized, and to strengthen their relationships within their school community.

Student Service

A key pillar of our mission at St. Petronille School is to encourage service to others in our local or global community. Our students learn how to serve through classroom instruction, through the example of parents, teachers and parish staff, and through projects initiated during the school year. Often, our projects focus on areas of service where we can make a significant and immediate impact.

Our school routinely serves the following organizations and programs:

  • Glen Ellyn Food Pantry
  • Feed My Starving Children
  • Glen Ellyn Park District
  • Adopt-A-Family for Christmas
  • PADS (local homeless shelter and support organization)

Recent projects outside our community supported by our students included relief efforts for:

  • The Haiti earthquake
  • Hurricane Sandy
  • Midwest Tornadoes

Many of our projects are initiated, organized and run by our students with guidance from our teachers and staff. We guide our students toward service projects that allow them to pursue their talents and enthusiasm, helping them to realize our responsibility as Catholic christians through servant leadership, always helping those in need, as a pathway to serving God!
